Michael S. Gayle, Ed.D.C.T., an accomplished musician, composer, and educator, represents a rare fusion of diverse musical influences that resonates with audiences worldwide. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, and raised in the United States, Dr. Gayle's mastery spans genres such as Caribbean/Jazz, Gospel, Contemporary Christian, and Classical music. His exceptional skills in singing, songwriting, producing, composing, and scoring music for film, combined with his proficiency in instruments like the saxophone and piano, make him a versatile and sought-after artist in the music industry.
Currently serving as the Network Director of Performing Arts at The Academy Charter Schools, Jazz Band Director at St. John's University, and Saxophonist at The Greater Allen Cathedral, Dr. Gayle's work transcends cultural boundaries, combining creativity and professionalism to create impactful music. His ability to craft compositions that tell powerful stories and resonate emotionally with listeners has earned him widespread recognition.
Dr. Gayle’s musical journey began at the age of four when he started playing the melodica without formal training. By eleven, he had taken up the saxophone, performing at school and community events. He pursued a Bachelor of Science in Music Performance with a concentration in Composition from Adelphi University, followed by a Master of Music in Film Scoring & Multimedia from New York University’s Steinhardt School. He further earned a Master of Music and Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and most recently completed his Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.C.T.), reflecting his commitment to innovation and excellence in his craft.
As Network Director of Performing Arts, Dr. Gayle is focused on transforming arts education across eight campuses. His approach nurtures students’ artistic development, preparing them to succeed both as performers and innovators. In addition to his educational leadership, Dr. Gayle is the Founder and CEO of Michael S. Gayle Media Inc., offering comprehensive entertainment services. Inspired by legends such as Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Dave Koz, and late friend David Sanborn, his music blends Caribbean/Jazz influences with classic structures reminiscent of the '80s.
Whether playing saxophone, organ, or keyboard during services at The Greater Allen Cathedral, Dr. Gayle’s love for music is evident in every note.
Formerly an Adjunct Professor at St. John's University, where he taught courses on the History of Jazz, Music in Film, and Music Production, he also lectured at Columbia University and the Manhattan School of Music. Despite a demanding career, he remains dedicated to his family, balancing his roles as a husband and father of four.
